Known as Susie Kroshinsky in her youth and early professional career, Susie displayed the exemplary qualities of a champion from an early age. Growing up in Southern California, Susie began her riding education at the young age of seven. Her early years were spent learning a solid riding and horsemanship foundation from a number of very accomplished professionals. As a junior, she became a sought-after “catch” rider, supporting her riding habit by grooming, braiding and providing a helping hand to others. At age 14, she qualified and competed in the AHSA (now USEF) and ASPCA Maclay finals.
After turning professional at age 22, Susie focused on furthering her riding education by working and learning from many well-known trainers including Mike Nielson and Rob Gage. Over the next several years, her varied experiences, combined with discipline, sportsmanship and a strong work ethic, sent her to new heights as a top competitor, trainer and coach. Showing the talented Grand Prix horse, Presto B, owned by long-time client and friend Alix Fargo, Susie rose through the Grand Prix ranks, posting impressive results in the United States, Europe and Canada. In 2006, she was selected to be part of the West Coast Active Riders European Tour. Representing the United States in the Nation’s Cup in Gijon, Spain, Susie and teammates came out of a very difficult competition with a very respectable fourth place finish.
While her personal career on the Grand Prix circuit flourished, she maintained her successful Los Angeles-area based show barn where she focused on the hunter, jumper and equitation disciplines. Since beginning Susan Artes Stables in 1998, Susie has developed a dedicated clientele and has helped coach numerous West Coast Medal Finals winners.
Today, Susan Artes Stables’ full-service operation includes 15-20 top-level horses in training for a select group of owners. With over 20 years of showing and teaching experience to her credit, Susie inspires teamwork and sportsmanship while providing her students with the skills they need to achieve their own personal show goals. Never one to stop the learning process, she continues to expand on her knowledge through her work with other trainers, such as Anthony D’Ambrosio and George Morris, and top riders of the sport. George Morris comments, “Susie has been a long-time friend and former pupil of mine. She is an asset to this country both as a rider and a horseman.”
